Why Soffit and Fascia Matter More Than You Think

Most homeowners never think about soffit and fascia until something goes wrong. But these components are your first line of defense against moisture, pests, and structural damage.

Fascia holds your gutters in place. If it rots, your gutters sag and water pours down your walls. Soffit ventilates your attic. If it fails, moisture builds up and mold follows.

Damaged soffit is also the number one entry point for raccoons, squirrels, and birds. If something is getting into your attic, the soffit is almost always to blame.

Signs Your Soffit or Fascia Needs Attention

Peeling or Cracking Paint

Paint breaking down on your fascia means moisture is getting in. The wood underneath is likely starting to rot.

Visible Rot or Soft Spots

Press on the fascia with your thumb. If it gives, the rot has set in. This needs replacement, not paint.

Animals in Your Attic

Raccoons, squirrels, and birds exploit small gaps in soffit panels. If you hear scratching upstairs, check your soffits.

Sagging Gutters

Gutters mount to fascia. If the fascia rots, gutters pull away. Fix the cause, not just the symptom.

Water Stains Under Eaves

Discoloration on soffit panels means water is getting behind the fascia and running along the underside.

Wasp or Bee Nests

Gaps in soffit panels are prime real estate for wasps. Sealing the soffit eliminates their favorite nesting spots.

Our Repair Process

We handle everything from targeted repairs to full replacement.

1

Inspect

We examine every section of soffit and fascia, noting rot depth, pest damage, and ventilation issues.

2

Remove & Prep

Damaged sections come off. We clean the framing, treat for moisture, and address any underlying issues.

3

Install

New aluminum or wood fascia and ventilated soffit panels go on with precise fitting and sealed joints.

4

Reinstall Gutters

Gutters go back up with fresh mounts, proper pitch, and confirmed drainage. Everything tight and tested.

Three Jobs, One System

Structural Protection

Fascia supports your gutters and seals the gap between your roof deck and the outside world.

Attic Ventilation

Vented soffit panels let air circulate through your attic, preventing moisture buildup and ice dams.

Curb Appeal

Clean, well-maintained soffit and fascia make your roofline look sharp and keep your home's value up.

Soffit & Fascia FAQs

Fascia is the vertical board that runs along the edge of your roofline, right behind your gutters. Soffit is the horizontal underside of the roof overhang. Together they seal your attic from weather, pests, and moisture while providing critical ventilation.
Look for peeling paint, visible rot, sagging sections, or gaps where pieces have pulled apart. If you see animals getting into your attic, the soffit likely has holes. Water stains on your soffit panels usually mean the fascia above them is failing.
We primarily use aluminum soffit and fascia for durability and zero maintenance. For homes where wood is preferred for aesthetic reasons, we use pre-primed cedar or composite materials that resist rot.
In most cases, yes. The gutters mount to the fascia, so we need to temporarily remove them to access the board behind. We reinstall them once the new fascia is in place -- and we re-check pitch and alignment while we are at it.
